ASTM B704 - Welded Tube
ASTM B704 specification covers ASTM B704 UNS N06625 Welded Tubes and ASTM B704 UNS N08825 Welded Tubes for general corrosion applications like boiler, heat exchanger and condenser tubes. They are applicable in low or high temperature services. ASTM B704 Welded tubes are manufactured with a spiral or longitudinal seam. The diameters of this product range from approx 6 to 2500mm with wall thickness from 0.5 to approx 40mm. The starting material is flat rolled, which, depending upon the manufacturing process, tube dimension and application, may take the form of hot-cold rolled steel, hot rolled tube. Siddhagiri Metals and Tubes provide Alloy 625 Welded Tubes and Alloy 825 Welded Tubes which are largely applicable in various pressure vessels and high temperature vessels. This specification covers welded ASTM B704 Inconel 625 Welded Tubes and ASTM B704 Incoloy 825 Welded Tubes alloy welded tubes and tubing, for general corrosion resistance. When heated, it forms a thick and stable passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. The ASTM B704 specification covers Welded Tubes of 0.015 inches to 0.500 inches (0.38 mm to 12.70 mm), inclusive in wall thickness, and 1/8 inches to 5 inches (3.18 mm to 127 mm), inclusive in outside diameter. The material is formed in tube shape with hot or cold forming process. Siddhagiri Metals and Tubes is a supplier of Incoloy 825 Welded Tubes and Inconel 625 Welded Tubes manufactured as per ASTM B704 specification. Inconel Welded Pipes are used in high-pressure systems demanding high-strength and resistance.
Scope And Manufacturing
This ASTM B704 specification covers standard specification for Nickel Alloy Welded Tubes like ASTM B704 Inconel 625 Welded Tubes and ASTM B704 Incoloy 825 Welded Tubes. The chemical composition of the material should adhere to the specification that are specified in ASTM B704 specifications, like chemical composition limit specified for Nickel, Copper, Columbium, Chromium, Carbon, Manganese, Silicon, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Cobalt, Molybdenum, Iron, Aluminum, and Titanium.

Mechanical Properties And Other Requirements:-
Tensile strength, Yield strength and elongation values should match the specified room temperature values for mechanical requirements. Along with chemical analysis and product analysis the following should be also performed like tension, flattening, bend and hydrostatic test.
|Grade Condition||Tensile Strength min, ksi (MPa)||Yield Strength (0.2 % offset), min, ksi (MPa)||Elongation in 2 inches or 50.8mm (or 4D)), min %|
Inconel 625 :
|Incoloy 825||85 0000 (586)||35 000 (240)||30|
Flare Test: - The Flare test should consist of test specimen (one end of tube among the lot of 100) with the help of expanding tool having covering an angle of 60 degree, until the specified outside diameter of the tube is increased atleast by 30% from the original. During this process, the tube should not exhibit any cracking through walls.
Grain Size: - An n extended (transverse) sample exhibiting complete wall thickness of annealed alloys shall adhere to the average grain size as specified in ASTM B730 specification.
Hardness: - In stress-relived conditions when annealed ends are specified for tubing, the hardness of the ends should not cross the limits as specified in ASTM B730.
Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test: - Every tube should be put through either hydrostatic test or nondestructive electric test. Within the mentioned specification limits of outside diameter of 1/8 inches (3.2mm) and thickness of 0.015 inches (0.38mm), each tube should be tested to an internal hydrostatic pressure of 1000 psi. (6.9MPa). Fiber stress calculated using this formula should not exceed the specification limits.
Specimen Preparation: -
Tension test- The tubes in the final condition (temper) of production are taken as specimen for tension test, and are tested in the direction of fabrication. Tubes are tested in full tubular size or longitudinal strip with reduced gage lengths. The tension test should be performed on stress-relived tubes prior to annealing the ends.
Hardness test- The hardness test is performed on the inside of the tube near the end or on the specimen cut from the end.
ASTM B704 UNS N06625 Welded Tubes and ASTM B704 UNS N06625 Welded Tubes are individually covered under the specification of ASTM B704, so that the premium quality of the material is retained and there are no damages in the last stages of production. The pipe should be uniform in quality and temper, commercially straight, smooth and free of any imperfections.
Inspection: - The tubes should be inspected as agreed upon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.
Rejection and Rehearing: - The pipe or tube not adhering to the ASTM B704 specification or to authorized modifications should be subjected to rejection. The rejected specimens should be preserved for not less than 3 weeks from test report, and the manufacturer may claim for rehearing within that stipulated time period.
If it is mentioned in purchase order or the contract, then the manufacturer should be able to produce a certificate stating that the material has been manufactured and tested and inspected again with respect to the specification. It should also note the test results of the specimen samples which meets the specification requirements, and should be displayed as and when required.
