Sheet is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. It is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from the metal sheet. Plate and sheet are words used to describe the classification of metal depending on its thickness. While sheet metal is less than 3 mm thick, plate metal is obviously thicker than 3 mm. Aluminium plate, machined to shape, forms the skins of jets and spacecraft fuel tanks, etc. It is used for storage tanks in many industries, in part because some aluminium alloys become tougher at supercold temperatures. Super Duplex Rolled Sheet Coil: Sheet Coils are flat products wound into rolls and having a rectangular cross-section, the width of which is much larger than the thickness. Hot Rolled Sheet Coil is produced from semifinished products (slabs or billets), which are reduced to certain thicknesses by rolling and annealing and wound into a roll. Cold Rolled Sheet Coil is produced by removing rust from a hot-rolled sheet by "pickling" it in a weak acid solution, then washing, brushing, drying, oiling and unrolling the sheet and finally performing cold-rolling by passing the sheet through a reducing mill under pressure and winding it into a roll. Cold-rolled steel Coil is a more highly finished product and has a smoother surface, greater dimensional accuracy (thickness, width, length) and greater strength. Super Duplex Rolled Sheet Strips: Sheet Strip is a flat product which, immediately after the final rolling pass or after pickling or continuous annealing is wound into laps so as to form a coil. Properties of Super Duplex 2507
Super Duplex 2507 Cold Forming
Super Duplex 2507 can be readily formed with the most of the common cold-forming methods. When forming requires more than 10% cold deformation, a solution anneal and quench are recommended.
Super Duplex 2507 Hot Forming
Super Duplex 2507 should be hot worked between 1875°F and 2250°F. This should be followed by a solution anneal at 1925°F minimum and a rapid air or water quench.
Super Duplex 2507 Machining
Super Duplex 2507 in the annealed condition is readily machinable by all conventional methods.
Super Duplex 2507 Pipe Welding
Super Duplex 2507 is readily weldable using many of the standard electric arc welding processes but oxyacetylene welding is not recommended because carbon pickup in the weld metal may occur.
Super Duplex 2507 Heat Treatment
Super Duplex 2507 should be solution annealed and quenched after either hot or cold forming. Solution annealing should be done at a minimum of 1925°F. Annealing should be followed immediately by a rapid air or water quench. To obtain maximum corrosion resistance, heat treated products should be pickled and rinsed.
