ASTM B127specification covers Monel 400 Sheet, Plate and Strip. Monel Alloy 400 is a binary alloy of the same proportions of nickel and copper, found naturally in the nickel ore from the Sudbury (Ontario) mines and is therefore considered a puritan alloy. Monel 400 Alloy can be hardened by cold processing and prevents attacks in the variety of conditions. Good resistance to corrosion by acids and oxygen makes Monel 400 a good material for the chemical industry. Monel Alloy shall conform to the required chemical composition for nickel, copper, iron, manganese, carbon, silicon, and sulfur. Monel Alloy 400 shall conform to the required mechanical propeties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Rockwell hardness. Monel 400 Sheet Plate

Scope And Manufacturing

ASTM B127 defines Monel 400 Alloy Sheet and Monel 400 Alloy Plate. Monel Sheets and Plates are made through rolling process. Rolling mill consists of rolls, bearings to support the rolls, gear box, motor, speed control devices, hydraulic systems etc. The basic type of rolling mill is two high rolling mill. In this mill, two opposing rolls are used. The direction of rotation of the rolls can be changed in case of reversing mills, so that the work can be fed into the rolls from either direction. Such mills increase the productivity. Non reversing mills have rolls rotating in same direction. Therefore, the work piece cannot be fed from the other side. Typical roll diameters may be 1.4 m. A three high rolling mill has three rolls. First rolling in one direction takes place along one direction. Next the work is reversed in direction and fed through the next pair of roll. This improves the productivity. Dimensions such as plate, sheet, and strip thickness, width, or diameter, length, straightness, edges, squareness, and flatness shall be determined.
