Stainless Steel Forged Fittings or Stainless Steel Forgings.
ASTM A788 Standards And Specifications
The ASTM A788 covers Forged Stainless Steel which are Threaded Elbow Forged Fittings, Socket Weld Tee Forged Fittings, Threaded Cross Forged Fittings, etc. used in general requirements.
ASTM A788 - Forged Fittings
ASTM A788 covers the standard specification for stainless steel forgings. This steel is forged through various process depending upon the temperature at which it is done. Forging is one of the oldest processes. Traditionally, forging was performed by a smith using hammer and anvil, though introducing water power in the production and working of iron in the 12th century which allowed the use of large trip hammers or power hammers that exponentially increased the amount and size of iron that could be produced and forged easily. In modern times, industrial forging is done either with presses or with hammers powered by compressed air, electricity, hydraulics or steam.
Scope And Manufacturing
ASTM A788 specification applies to steel forgings for general use. The Forged Steel should be produced primarily by either electric-furnace, basic oxygen, vacuum-induction (VIM), or open-hearth melting process. The primary melting may incorporate separate degassing or refining and may be followed by secondary melting, using electro slag (ESR) or vacuum arc remelting (VAR). The steel is forged by any of these three classes based on forging temperature: cold-worked forging, hot-cold-worked forging, or hot-worked forging. After forging, specimens shall be allowed to cool prior to reheating for heat treatment. Details of heat and product analyses for the evaluation of chemical composition are thoroughly discussed with the expertise. Tension and hardness tests shall be conducted to evaluate mechanical properties such as the percentage of elongation and reduction of area. Repair welding shall not be allowed unless permitted by the product specification.
Siddhagiri Metals and Tubes offers forged components that are found in defense, from rifle triggers to nuclear submarine drive shafts. Heavy tanks, missiles, armoured personnel carriers, shells and other heavy artillery are common defense-related applications of forged components. We have a large inventory of Stainless Steel Forged Fittings which have high tensile strength and provide excellent resistant to corrosion.
ASTM A788 specification covers Stainless Steel Forgings with specified standard dimensions. Forgings of large size are commonly used by industrial equipment and machinery such as steel, textile, paper, power generation and transmission, chemical and refinery industries.
